About the role
The Community Readiness Coordinator assists the Manager in operating the joint Lunenburg County Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) serving the five municipal units in Lunenburg County. The position assists in the development and delivery of REMO’s preparedness program and provides assistance and expertise to REMO and municipal staff during emergency activations. This position reports to Manager of Regional Emergency Management Organization.

Responsibilities
- Assisting the manager in the development of strategies, plans, bylaws, and policies.
- Assisting the manager in ensuring the necessary physical and human resources are available and coordinated for the operation of the Emergency Coordination Centre.
- Providing situational awareness and reporting to municipalities and provincial officials leading up to, during, and after an emergency.
- Fulfilling key emergency management roles and advice to leaders during emergency activations of the Emergency Coordination Centre.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with the Nova Scotia Department of Emergency Management, local first responders, and partners.
- Participate in the development and implementation of public education and outreach.
- Research best practices in public outreach and emergency management messaging and create innovative campaigns to promote emergency preparedness.
- Develop and deliver public education and community outreach programs that increase awareness about emergency preparedness and disaster recovery.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and public events.

With your sound judgement and patience, you work well under pressure to ensure all stakeholders are working together and understand the emergency management process.
In your cover letter, explain how you have demonstrated these skills in the past.
- Post secondary education in Emergency Management, Business Continuity, or Community Development, or related field
- ICS-300 certification, or ability to obtain certification within one (1) year; and
- Three years experience in emergency management/community resiliency field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You understand municipal government and partner responsibilities.
- You have highly effective written and verbal communication, collaboration, and coordination skills, and you are able to handle multiple complex tasks concurrently.
- You can develop and foster effective working relationships and provide quality customer service.
- You can work independently with minimum supervision, as well as be part of a broad Emergency Management team from five municipalities.
- You have strong organizational and project management skills with an ability to perform effectively in stressful situations.
- You have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Forms, Outlook, OneDrive).
Working Conditions
- Office environment; some need for site/field visits for investigation of conditions.
- Travel and work in and throughout the five municipal units.
- Moderate occasional lifting is required to an approximate maximum of 40 lbs.
- Participation in the paid, on-call duty rotation is expected.
- Permanent full-time position, based on 35 hours per week.
- Evening/weekend work as necessary.
- Works well under pressure in stressful situations.
- In an emergency, you may be called back to work to assist.
- MODL offers a condensed work week and work from home options.
- You possess a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Person Check is required.
- Salary range: $63,257 – $79,072 (Band 60)
